Thirty-five litres sounds enormous on a product page and looks ordinary on a shoulder. Here is what a club swimmer actually got into one, with room to close it.
The full training load
- Two towels, one for the pool deck and one for after.
- A kickboard and a pull buoy, side by side.
- Fins, size 5, laid flat along the back.
- Two costumes, a cap and goggles in the dry pocket.
- A water bottle standing upright, and a snack that survives.
When to size down
Learn-to-swim rarely needs more than 20 litres — a towel, a costume and goggles do not fill a training bag. Twenty to thirty-five is the club range. Above that you are carrying air, and air is heavier than it sounds by the third flight of stairs.
