Kit care

What chlorine really does to your kit

It is not the swimming that wears a bag out. It is the fortnight of damp chlorine afterwards.

Chlorine does not attack fabric while you are in the water. It does its damage slowly, in a warm bag, over the days between sessions — which is why a rinse matters more than a wash.

Rinse, do not scrub

Cold fresh water, thirty seconds, straight after the session. That removes most of what would otherwise sit in the weave all week.

Dry in the shade

Direct sun and radiators both cook the elastic in costumes and stiffen mesh. Airflow is what dries kit, not heat. A shaded line and an open window beat a hot cupboard every time.

Our bags are squad-tested through two full seasons of daily training. Treated this way, they last a great deal longer than that.
